Chapter Commander Comments HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
J hope you enjoyed the holiday season and that 2009 is filled with good health and happiness for us all. I'd like to start this newsletter with a very sincere thank you to all of the members that made 2008 a great success; from the ones that handed out door prizes at meetings, to the ones who collected donations for our Forget-Me-Not Benevolence Fund which helps so many of our local veterans in need throughout the year. I met a lot of members at the Military Appreciation Day at Golden Corral. I really enjoyed answering your questions and listening to your ideas. With over 1,450 members in Chapter #003, we hear from and do a lot for this community. If you are retiring from a 2nd job and/or are looking for something worthwhile to fill your time, please come to one of our meetings and get to know your comrades and get involved. If we don't continue to do our part and learn from the past, we won't be able to keep our organizations strong, and we will lose the benefits our past leaders fought so hard for. And believe me, there are those who are working against us; so we must continue to fight to keep what is ours.
Our
chapter has been very active in the community. We recently participated in the
Veteran's Day Parade; thanks to Norman McCoy who drove the DAV van. Our Auxiliary
Commander: Mildred Brown, State Chaplain: Doris Jamison, and I really enjoyed
seeing the streets lined with people waving flags. We were led by our state commander: Greg Dearborn , and followed by followed by life member Norman Watts , who sported two of his fine clasic cars.It was a really great day enjoyed by all . Also in November , we worked with our DAV mobile service officer . In that one day , we were able to assist 32 veterans and their dependents with their VA claims , Thank you Harley Heroes for sponsoring this event .Most reciently , our chaplan :Mose Polk and his assistant chaplans :Eddie Gilmore,Chuck Wiley , Bob Crawley,Charles Edlin and Charles Wheeler delivered 150 fruit baskets to our shutins and veterans and nursing homes and rehab homes..Thanks to a verry generous donation in Radcliff,Chaplan Polk also had the pleasure of delivering 40 hand made lap blankets.to keep the veteran's legs warm this
winter . Our auxilliary attended their fall conference in Cincinnati and the have been busy every sinse the auxillary play an important roll in the DAV.We can never thank them enough for the work they do for the chapter and the comunnity . It takes a lot of dedication and team work to accomplish as much as our unit and chapter does . It is nice to belong to a group with so much pride and "CAN - DO" attitude . I am grateful for everyone of you ! Our next chapter meeting is Jan 8th . Make your news years resolution to join us in making a difference May God Bless and keep us all safe .
